shelter logic kennels

Postby fuzzydux on Sat May 30, 2009 8:34 pm

When I was looking for a new duckhouse for the backyard, i came across a company called Shelter Logic...I think they're in Connecticut. I bought an 8x8 enclosure and I love it. It even came with the top included, which most chain link ones don't. I had to put chicken wire over the top underneath the cover, but other than that, it's perfect. I also bought Kennel Deck flooring, which is easy to clean and keeps them up off the ground. As soon as I get some pictures, I will post them.

Wow, I can't wait to see the pics - sounds wonderful! Will the flooring eliminate digging predators?

The shelter logic kennel with the top and the shipping was just under $650. I bought it with my tax return, I only have two ducks and i figured they were worth it. It should last a good long while, it's really sturdy.
I am having some issues with my flooring situation........maybe you guys could give me some ideas. The kennel deck is great, easy to clean......just hose it down am & pm, and give it a good mopping once a week. I don't know if it's just the massive amount of rain we've been having up here on Long Island, or the hosing twice a day, but I've got gnats real bad.
I only have chicken wire & dirt underneath. I was thinking that maybe some gravel or something underneath would help with the drainage, because you know how messy the ducks can be and I think once a day hosing wouldn't be enough. I know it's because it's not drying out underneath, and any input would be greatly appreciated!!

I think that when you hit reply, you will see a little area on the bottom that says 'upload attachment'. Click that. Then you'll need to know the filename or be able to browse for it. Once you've found it, click 'add the file'. I think you need to write something in the message area - like you do any time you post a message. Then hit submit. See if that will work. I'm anxious to see your kennels too.

Aw darn. Email them to Jen (Carolina Waterfowl rescue) - she's very technologically talented and I'll bet she knows how to get them to work. She's awfully busy so it may take a little time but then we can see what you have.

Thank you soo much for posting my photos! That's my duckhouse, floor and all. I've been using an organic fly spray made for horses to keep them to a minimum. It's normally sprayed right on the horse's coat, and the smell of it repels the flies. There is also a product called Liquid Net that works pretty well also. It is a tad pricey, but I don't usually have to spray everyday if I spray it in the right places. The flooring traps the moisture underneath, which I guess is pretty much unavoidable, although it makes for quite a "slug" fest for them! I don't want to have to go back to using hay. I do use cheap green grass rugs as placemats for their food dish, and a squirrel repellent around the outside. I love being able to have Norbert home with me. The last time he had to stay at the farm, he was NOT a happy camper! He's a mama's boy and prefers the home life.
Thanks again for using your tech super powers to post my pics, and thanks for hosting this website.......it is such a help when I need advice, and whenever I'm able to help someone else it makes me feel so good. It's a good thing you do!
